Over the past couple of months, I’ve been able to develop a good relationship with Alicia James.
If you’re not familiar with Alicia, she is a very talented, up and coming R&B star – who is also a natural hair enthusiast. She just recently completed a new project titled “Seven”.
A few days ago, Alicia emailed me with great excitement, telling me about her new album. She gave me a free copy and I must say it’s really good.
So, I decided to share part of my conversation with Alicia and give you an opportunity to check out her new album.
Kenneth: Alicia – If you would, tell the community about Alicia James and how you got started in the music industry.
Alicia: Wow! Alicia James is just a little ole’ afro wearing country women from Mississippi who loves to sing! LOL! I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. Once I moved to Houston, Texas, I was inspired by so many people around me to actually pursue it as a career. I started recording and eventually started writing my own songs. Then, everything just sort of came to life from there! ![]()
Kenneth: Thank you for sharing your new project with me. I really enjoyed it. I think my favorite song is Fade Away, but I really like the feature track “Seven” also. Tell us more about “Seven” and what this project means to you.
Alicia: “Seven” is the number in the bible used multiple times to symbolize completion. So, what better name I thought to represent my project, “Complete”! This album means so much to me. It is just a cd of seven songs that is pretty much packed with love.

Kenneth: That’s really awesome! Alicia, you’re no stranger to Natural Hair Community and have been featured on the site before. Since you’ve been rocking natural hair for quite some time, do you have any words of encouragement for women in the natural hair community?
Alicia: I always say do what makes you happy! Everyone else will have their own opinion, but how you feel is what matters in the end! ![]()
Kenneth: Alright, Alicia, before I let you go, what can we expect next from you and your career?
Alicia: You can expect more great music and more growth. Who knows what’s next!
